As you all know, I love recreating pieces of artwork that I adore. So, as a break in an otherwise painful classical portraiture project, I decided to pay homage to Gabriele Dell’Otto with this painting of his Phoenix piece.
I’ve spent around 10 hours overall on it so far, and, whilst at some points I’ve wanted to put my foot through the bastard’s face as I don’t do large scale painting and I don’t even do painting in general, it’s been a real hoot!
I am without speech…

Nguyen’s always fantastic at his females (apart from sometimes they have a little bit of wasp sting going on), and this is probably one of his best pieces. Outstanding.
