So… I just got back from seeing The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Here’s basically what my face looked like the entire time:

I’m pretty much left speechless; that was intense in the best way possible. The words sinister and enticing were running through my mind the entire time, as well as the constant blanket of foreboding that left me with bated breath. It was unintentionally hilarious to hear the reactions of people who had clearly walked in expecting something light and easy to watch, only to have (no spoilers) all of that thrust at them.
Granted, there was some extremely difficult watching, but the red herrings and sudden changes of pace were incredibly well-placed and I stayed focused the entire time (which is a fair effort, given that it’s a fucking long/involved movie). I can honestly say that darkly compelling movies like this keep me interested and alert; I relish that sense of the extreme affront, whereas other people tend to shy away.
And whoa, Rooney Mara. Just whoa. I felt some pain behind those eyes; I haven’t read the books, so I wasn’t sure what to expect and whether or not I should’ve done so first, but I got a real taste for Lisbeth Salander’s (goddamn that is an amazing name) character. I do plan on delving into the text quite soon though, gotta balance it out.
Yeah, that’s my super-quick and bare-bones assessment of that film. Oh but wait, the soundtrack… what can I say? Words aren’t worth it. That final song by How To Destroy Angels. Yeah. BAM
